Subject | [HaCkmEeTiNg] ! UPWARDLY MOBILE a project for Free Manifesta, Frankfurt - invitation to partecipate |
Hallo to everyone,
this is the new project i'm collaborating on here in
Holland.
You're are invited to partecipate and I hope you would
accept because we need people soon..
otherwise we can get in big troubles with the Free
Manifesta...!!
Seriously, i wish you would be part of this very
simple project in which you can easily partecipate by sending a letter, a tape,
or whatever.
Here below a brief description.
You can reply me to this address.
Looking forward to hear from you,
ciao
Valentina
! UPWARDLY
MOBILE INVITATION to take a
part in the !Upwardly Mobile project within the Free
Manifesta. (Free manifesta www.freemanifesta.org is an open
exhibition of non monetary artworks to be held in Frankfurt am Main, Germany,
May 24 - August 25 2002. It is a project by Sal Randolph and is part of the
Manifesta 4, www.manifesta.de) Brief description of
the project. ! UPWARDLY MOBILE is a
collaborative project by Norman Beierle (Germany), Valentina Ferrarese (Italy)
and Hester Keijser (Netherlands). We propose to use a
public space of the Modern Art Museum in Frankfurt during the second week of
August (11 August - 18 August 2002). Approximately 25
international artists are invited to send us a work that fits into a transparent
plastic bag, which we will hang in the coat check room of the Modern Art
Museum. By this project we
offer the participants a real exhibition in the Modern Art Museum of
Frankfurt as well as an
opportunity to leave the work in the stock of the museum. The artists will
receive documentation of the show and possibly the receipt from the coat check
room if they decide to leave it there as a part of the museum
“collection”. This way they will have
a chance to upgrade their CV and be a part of an exciting
network. The coat check room of
a museum can be considered as a semipublic space inbetween the
institutional and the
non-institutional, and furthermore is not bound to the inner hierarchy of the
museum life. !Upwardly Mobile offers
a different approach to the traditional way of exhibiting in a
museum. This action leaves open
a range of interpretations
: -
it makes the museum an
easily accessible experimental place; -
it breaks the line
between the happy few that exhibit in major art spaces and other artists that
are excluded from this network; -
it questions the static
rules of the art institutions -
it gives the visitors
of the museum an unexpected experience in comparison with the preprogrammed
activities
Rules for participating: 1-
The artist submits a
work in any medium, which fits into a transparent plastic bag of 33 x 35 x
5 cm. We provide plastic bags with the name of the project
printed on it. 2- The work will be sent to the address of Beierle, Farrarese & Keijser at Haagweg 4,
2311 AA Leiden, Netherlands, or to the e-mail address: upwardly2002@email.com We will
transport the artworks to Frankfurt where we will install
them. 3- Correspondence and documentation
of the event will be published in a
future web site. 4- Participants are responsible for
the postage unless we get funding for the project. 5-
Participants can
include their CV or other info, but this is not mandatory. 6- We cannot be held responsible for
damage to the work.
