Hi
everybody,
I’m writing a book on the cultural history of menstruation. I
wanted to know if any of you have ever done anything on this subject
or if you know of any people or groups that do what I call ômenstrual
activismö, that means the fight for the liberation and acceptance
of menstruation.
I would also like to ask all of you the following questions:
Thank you! Raffaella
Words
and expressions for (not) saying menstruation: do you and your boyfriends,
your girlfriends, your mothers, your partners and/or husbands and wives
call it in different ways? How? (please explain very strange things)

Of course other than
The usual the periodö
The red headed aunt
The generic and deceiving “I have the curse”
”I have my periodö (??? What ?)
...
I think I have always called it by it's name.
(Hey, I think that in New York there is a Museum of Menstruation)

Menstruation,
the curse, the period, and also alias: "the Friday": ?
A thousand ways of calling it..
The one I have never understood: the marquee
The most poetic: M.Z.Bradley in 'La torcia' "Moon's blood".
The one I feel my own: cycle.
A big classic on the theme is for sure F. Heritier's book 'masculine
feminine'...
Ciao everyone

so, although my mother correctly informed me
*before* the start, on causes and ways of menstruation (that is , in
good faith was trying to give me a good explanation) she always called
it ô to be sickö.
In fact, we are a family that is quite subject to the accompanying pain
syndrome (but I can't not see a connection , even if only partial, with
the way my mother called it).
A man can say of himself this is how I’m done and that is it!
'and beproud as of a
force .
A woman to accept herself has to be capable of understanding that oneself
is always
the result of numerous influences and knows that one can’t put
aside in such a
simplistic way the concept of ones identity. For me, a women’s
strength comes just
from this, that is, from the capacity to remain loyal to her true and
profoundly intima te self even when her attitud eschange. A capacity
that for sure contributes to the
big ger capabilities of women’s mental flexibility.
